T5 Dead
I downloaded the linux4palm files for the T5 yesterday, installed them on my memory card and ran Cocoboot and was totally surprised when my T5 booted into Linux! The only thing that left my wondering was that it was showing my battery as charging even when the power cable was disconnected. No big deal.
I did a couple of shutdowns to make sure things were working (and I had to reset each time to get back into the palmos). I was also surprised that my data hadn't been deleted.
Now my problem: I booted back into linux, played some mahjongg and then instead of doing a shutdown I did a reboot: I watched the progress bar go to the end and then my screen went black. That's it. It won't start again. Reset doesn't work (not even a hard reset), it's just dead. I noticed after detaching the power cable this morning that the back of the T5 was hot, but after detaching the cable it has cooled down.
Do you think maybe that my battery was short-circuited or something? I've really run out of ideas on getting it revived. Thanks for any ideas.

Not personally having a T5,
Not personally having a T5, I can't be of too much help, however, I would note that it's completely normal for the device to be a bit hot during and shortly after charging - just the nature of the process. Being a lithium-based battery, if it shorted, you would likely have much bigger problems (presuming it didn't have sufficient protection built-in).
There is a way to do a *hard*-hard-reset, but that would void your warranty, so I won't post it unless no one else has any better ideas.

Hey, I had something quite
Hey,
I had something quite similar happen with my TX. I was tinkering with Linux, but when I left Opie I used the reboot key instead of shutdown. It froze and no amount of resets pushes on the back would bring it back to life. Apparently, there is a problem with shutdown and it cand hang the device up like this. I'd only had my TX a week when this happened to me and I was scared I 'd created a 300 dollar doorstop. Like your unit mine became very warm. I'm not sure why that occurs, but I guess that's common too.
Anyway, the solution was to let the battery discharge completely. Try keeping your unit off the charger for some time. Mine only took few hours to discharge, but I do recall reading where it could take up to 12 hours to accomplish this.
Once the battery discharged, I plugged the unit into the power charger and did a hard reset. I'm pretty sure a hard reset was required, but you could try a simple reset and see what happens. Anyway, when I did the hard reset it restored my TX to factory defaults, which unfortunately, means lost data. Thankfully, I didn't have much data in the thing so what was lost was meaningless. Since then I end my linux sessions doing a shutdown, followed by a push of the reset button on the back and my TX will spring to life.
I don't know much about the T5, but I would think the process is similar. Discharge the unit and do a reset. Hopefully will get you going again.
I hope this works for you. It was a pretty antsy five hours when it happened to me.
Good Luck,
Lewis

You're right! Yesterday afternoon, after basically dismantling the T5 and putting it back together, I tried the reset again after plugging in the cable and it came back to life. I didn't do a hard reset and I didn't lose any data. Thanks for your quick reply.
